Sitting Service
We are delighted to announce the introduction of our much awaited "Sitting Service." Funded by National Lottery Community Fund.
We have wanted to offer this service for some time, and this is your chance to be involved at the beginning of our new venture. This service is designed to help the carers that come to our dementia cafes to get a much-needed break for a couple of hours each week.
Volunteers will stay with a person who is living with dementia in their own home so that the carer is able to leave for a couple of hours.
If you are interested in our Sitting Service, please contact Pippa our Project Manager on 07720651346 or email manager@downhamdementia.org
or Joan, our chairman on 07856836745 or Amy, our Admin Assistant to request an application form admin@downhamdementia.org
The Role of the Sitter
Downham Dementia recruits and trains volunteers that give up their time to visit a person who is living with dementia while the carer has a much -needed break.
This can enhance the quality of life of the café user and support the carer enabling them to continue in their caring role. The service could prevent the breakdown of fatigue and despair that sometimes faces families who are caregivers 24 hours a day every day.
The role does not involve personal care or handling medication or money. You will receive full training and on-going support.
The commitment can be for an hour once a fortnight with all visits preplanned.
